A set of self-adhesive masks for the glazing and the national insignia of a Bf 109G-6 model in 1:24 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Gustav was the most numerously built version of the Messerschmitt. The G-6 version received 13 mm heavy machine guns in the fuselage whose breeches would not fit under the skin, so the designers set conspicuous bulges above them, which the Germans themselves called Beulen. It is by these that the G-6 is recognized at first glance, together with the underwing gondolas that made it a bomber destroyer.
In 1:24 scale the cockpit has dimensions that allow nothing to be fudged. The frames are long, the glazing is large and every inaccurately cut strip of tape shows at ordinary viewing distance. Cutting strips of masking material by hand on a model like this takes a whole evening, and the result still varies.
Contents of the set: masks for the glazing for the outer and the inner side, plus three masks for the national insignia. The inner set is the detail that makes the difference. The frames of the glazing are painted a different color inside than outside, and without a mask you can only get at them with a brush.
The masks are peeled off the backing, stuck onto the glazing, and the remaining area is covered with tape or liquid mask. After spraying they are lifted off with tweezers, ideally while the paint is not yet fully cured, so that the finish does not tear away over an edge.
The set is cut exactly to the parts of one particular kit, which you have to obtain separately. National insignia sprayed through a mask also have the advantage that you will never find a silvered decal edge on them. Lay each part down dry first and check that the edge fits exactly into the corner of the frame.
