An injection-molded plastic kit of the Nissan Skyline GTS-R racing car of the R31 generation in the famous blue and white livery of the sponsor Calsonic, in 1:24 scale from the Japanese maker Hasegawa. Besides the plastic parts the package holds rubber tires, a sheet of water-slide decals and a masking template, which makes painting the windows and the dividing lines easier. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Skyline GTS-R was a homologation derivative of the production R31 generation and Nissan built it precisely in order to field a competitive car in the Japanese touring car championship in Group A. It was powered by a turbocharged inline six, the body received more pronounced aerodynamic features and, in racing specification, a roll cage, a racing seat and a lightened interior. The car in Calsonic colors was among the fastest machines in the field at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s and in the 1989 season it repeatedly started from the front of the grid. For fans of Japanese motorsport the Calsonic Skyline is still one of the icons of the Group A era.
First rid the body carefully of mold seams and sand it, because a gloss finish will emphasize every irregularity. Apply a filler primer, then a rich color and finally several thin coats of gloss varnish. Settle the extensive sponsor decals on a perfectly smooth gloss surface, use a decal softener and let them dry out properly, and only then coat them with a clear varnish. It is more practical to finish the interior and the engine bay before you close the body up. Do not glue the tires with ordinary cement for plastic, which holds badly on them, and do not mask the chrome-plated parts with aggressive tape, as chrome is easily damaged.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
