A masking set for the Hawker Hurricane Mk IIC in the large scale: covers for the cockpit glazing, masks of national markings and decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
Four Hispano cannons of twenty millimeters turned the Hurricane from a day fighter into a strike machine. Over England in 1941 and 1942 night patrols against bombers were flown with it; later the machines proved themselves over Burma and in North Africa, where the thick wing and the sturdy landing gear allowed them to operate from improvised strips. The cannons protruding from the leading edge are the most conspicuous recognition mark of the version.
In one twenty-fourth a single segment of glazing covers an area that in a smaller scale a whole cockpit would have. When one edge then lifts during spraying, the result is not a spoiled strip but a substantial area, and repainting it means sanding and starting again. It therefore pays to run a fingernail or a wooden stick around the whole perimeter once it is stuck on and to make sure it holds along the whole length.
The paper carrier will take even a slight stretch over a curve, but it does not like repeated re-sticking, because after a second removal the adhesive weakens. Anyone who wants to try the position as a rehearsal can use offcuts from the edge of the sheet.
The machines sent to North Africa received a bulky sand filter under the nose, which markedly changed the outline of the lower fuselage, and they carried sand and brown shades instead of European green. For a modeler a version modified like that offers a rewarding whole in color, on which the wear of the paint from swirling sand stands out. A covered cockpit is especially useful in such a build, because sand colors are applied in many thin coats and the time for which the glazing is exposed to overspray is correspondingly long.
The aircraft itself is not supplied in the package.
