An injection-molded plastic kit from the Japanese firm Aoshima in 1:24 from the More Grand Champion range. The real subject is the Toyota Mark II with the type designation MX41 in the 1978 version, though not in production condition: the model captures a period street styling in the manner of the Japanese Grand Champion racing series. The set holds a front spoiler, a wing on the trunk lid, pronounced side mirrors and deep chrome-plated 14-inch wheels with wide tires.
In the second half of the 1970s the Toyota Mark II was a typical Japanese mid-size sedan with a boxy body. It was cars like these that young motorists of the day modified after the circuit specials of the Grand Champion series: they added aerodynamic parts, lowered the car and fitted wide wheels with deeply dished rims. That style, known among enthusiasts as grachan, still forms a collecting category of Japanese models all its own.
The body is molded in white and the chassis and the interior in black, so it can be built even without painting it all; for a good result, though, we recommend primer and an airbrush. Glue with thin cement for plastic and take care with the thin parts of the spoiler and the wing. Roughen the chrome-plated wheels at the joint before gluing, otherwise the glue will not hold on the plated layer. Apply a gloss coat under the decals, and choose the final degree of gloss according to whether you want the car polished or dusty in period fashion.
