A masking set for the P-47D Thunderbolt in 1:24 complemented by a sheet of decals. It covers the glazing from both sides and carries four parts for the markings.
Responsibility details are not available.
When the preparation for the landings got under way in the spring of 1944, the squadrons armed with the P-47D type moved from escorting bombers to attacks on ground targets. Eight machine guns in the wing and the ability to carry a heavy load under the fuselage and under the wing made the aircraft a feared destroyer of locomotives and truck columns. The toughness of the radial engine moreover allowed machines to return even with whole cylinders shot through.
The machines of that time carried conspicuous recognition stripes around the wings and the fuselage, and with some units a garishly painted nose or rudder. In a reduction of 1:24 all these areas become a test of patience, because a sharp transition between two shades cannot be disguised in any way on a large model.
Included are two shapes for the glazing of the cockpit, one for the view from outside and the other for the inner side, four parts for the national insignia and with them a decal sheet that covers the markings unsuited to spraying.
When spraying two-color transitions, let the first shade cure properly, ideally overnight. A stencil applied to a fresh layer will tear it when removed, and a repair on the smooth side of a fuselage shows more than on a broken-up surface. It also pays to start from the lighter shade, because a dark layer covers a light one more easily than the other way round and it saves you a whole stage of work.
