A masking set in 1:24 scale intended for a model of the float Spitfire. It is neither a kit nor a finished model - it is an accessory with which you spray the glazing frames and other sharply bounded areas precisely and without cutting masks by hand.
The float Spitfire came about during the war as a conversion of the production fighter, in which a pair of floats replaced the wheeled landing gear. The powerplant stayed the same as on the land version, that is, the liquid-cooled Rolls-Royce Merlin V12. So that the machine with floats would remain directionally stable, it was given an enlarged vertical tail supplemented by a ventral fin under the rear fuselage. The conversion went through trials, but no extensive combat use followed - which makes it all the more interesting for a modeler as an unusual variant of a well-known aircraft.
The 1:24 scale is large and the cockpit glazing on it is sizeable, so any inaccuracy shows in the result at first glance. Pre-cut masks solve that problem: they fit the shape of the part and you do not have to handle a knife on the model. Before sticking them on, degrease the glazing, lift a mask off with tweezers and press it down with a soft tool from the center toward the edges, so that no air gets under it. Apply the paint in thin layers - a heavy layer will creep under the edge. Take a mask off while the finish is still only touch-dry, and wipe any adhesive residues away with a cotton swab moistened in cleaning alcohol, clear of the transparent areas.
The set is an accessory for the model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
