About product

The Eduard pack of photo-etched accessories for the Spitfire Mk.IXc in 1:24 scale

This item is not an airplane model. It is a pack of the Big Ed range, in which the Czech manufacturer Eduard combines several of its separately sold photo-etched sets meant for one particular kit. It brings together in one package several sets that are also sold separately. The pack is cut for the Spitfire Mk.IXc in the large 1:24 scale. Look for the list of the particular sets inside in the manufacturer's description.

The real subject

The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX came about as a quick response to the appearance of new enemy fighters: a more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin engine with a two-stage, two-speed supercharger was installed in the proven airframe of the previous version, which shifted the performance mainly at greater altitudes. The suffix c denotes the so-called universal wing, which made it possible to change the make-up of the armament to suit the task. The Mk.IX was among the most numerously built versions of the Spitfire and served on practically all the European battlefields and in the Mediterranean.

Building tips

Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp scalpel against a hard backing, not with scissors, otherwise the thin sheet will ripple. Make the bends on a photo-etch bending tool or at least between two blades, always along the whole length of the bend at once. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin or a piece of wire; on larger areas a glue with a longer setting time helps, so that you have time to seat the part. Degrease the sheet before gluing. In 1:24 scale the parts are fairly large, so working with them is more rewarding than in small scales, but by the same token every unfinished detail shows all the more on the completed model.

Who the pack is for

  • Modelers who are building the Spitfire Mk.IXc in 1:24 scale and want to equip it in one purchase.
  • Those who prefer a single bundle to assembling the sets one at a time.
  • Builders who already have basic experience of photo-etched parts.
  • Collectors of the large scales, where detail accessories stand out most.

FAQ

It is not. This is a pack of photo-etched accessories that are fitted into a Spitfire Mk.IXc kit in 1:24 scale you have already obtained. The model itself is not included.

The pack contains several separately sold photo-etched sets for one kit; look for the exact list in the manufacturer's description.

A sharp scalpel, tweezers and cyanoacrylate glue will do. A photo-etch bending tool makes the work markedly easier, but in the large 1:24 scale a number of bends can be managed between two blades as well.

It brings together in one package several sets that are also sold separately. The manufacturer bundles them for one particular kit, and the exact list is in the manufacturer's description.
