1:24 Spitfire Mk.VIII is a Big Ed bundle from Eduard that brings several photo-etched sets for a large model of the British fighter together in one box.
Responsibility details are not available.
At Eduard the Big Ed designation means a package of several separately sold sets for one model, brought together in a single box. In 1:24 scale such a bundle makes particularly good sense: a large airframe offers an enormous area on which every simplified plastic detail is noticed at first glance. Here the photo-etched parts take care above all of the fine structural elements that the mold cannot give.
The Mk.VIII was a thoroughly reworked version for service outside Europe. It received a two-stage supercharged Merlin of the 60 series, a strengthened airframe and a retractable tailwheel, so it coped even with the rougher surface of field airstrips. It flew over Burma and Italy and in the markings of the Royal Australian Air Force over New Guinea, where pilots valued it mainly for its performance at high altitude. Many machines carried a sand filter under the nose and a pointed rudder.
Separate the parts with a sharp knife on a hard surface, not by twisting. A small bending tool will handle the bends; on larger areas a razor blade and a ruler help. Degreased photo-etch holds best over a thin primer intended for metal. Always dry-fit the placing before gluing, because once cyanoacrylate glue has been applied a correction is usually no longer possible.
