The Toyota Celica 1600ST (1970) in 1:24 scale from the Japanese firm Hasegawa: a plastic kit of the first-generation Celica in the entry-level 1600ST trim from the year it was launched.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:24 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. The real subject is the first-generation Toyota Celica in 1600ST trim, specifically the form from 1970. The model year is a distinguishing detail here: the first-generation Celica changed during production and Hasegawa also offers later and racing variants.
The Celica was introduced at the end of 1970 as a sporting coupe built on the mechanicals of ordinary Toyotas. Its two-door body with a long hood and a set-back rear pillar earned it the nickname the Japanese Mustang. The 1600ST trim was the entry to the range: a 1600 gasoline four-cylinder with an OHV valvetrain, rear-wheel drive and simpler equipment than the top 1600GT, which received a twin-cam engine. The 1600ST is thus the car that shows the Celica in its purest and, for the period, most ordinary form.
Cars of the early 1970s live on chrome and on the shades of the day. The bumpers, light surrounds and trim can be dealt with using chrome paint, but on a model of this kind it pays to reach for self-adhesive metallic foil; it looks markedly better than silver paint. Leave the interior matte, set the plastics apart from the seats with a slight difference in shade, and bring the instrument panel out with a dark wash. For the body a rich period shade suits well, supported by a proper coat of gloss clear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
