An injection-molded plastic kit from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa in 1:24 scale. The subject is the Toyota Corolla Levin of the AE101 type in the top GT Apex form, completed with a lip spoiler under the bumper, as the name of the box gives. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Levin is a sports coupe derived from the Corolla; its sister car with the same mechanicals and a different nose was the Sprinter Trueno. The AE101 generation of the first half of the 1990s got, in the GT Apex version, a high-revving 1.6-liter twin-cam engine, which has kept a strong reputation among fans of Japanese machinery. The car appeared widely on circuits and in amateur sport as well, so it became a popular subject for modelers. The lip spoiler is a factory accessory that visually lowers the nose of the car.
The body is smooth and a painted surface tells on it, so allow for a filler primer and several thin coats of paint. Two-tone forms, usual on this generation, are done by masking once the first color is perfectly dry — do not rush, otherwise the tape will leave a mark. The lip spoiler meets the bumper, so try the joint dry beforehand and fill any gap. Finish the interior before closing the body and assemble the wheels with their fine rims only at the end, so that they are not damaged during handling.
