Slipway door for in-flight refueling on the A-10, late version 1:48 offers the cover in the nose of the fuselage in the open position. The item supplements a kit of the ground-attack aircraft already bought.
Responsibility details are not available.
The A-10 Thunderbolt II ground-attack aircraft takes on fuel in flight through a receptacle hidden in the nose of the fuselage ahead of the windshield. Under normal circumstances a door covers it, and it swings open only at the moment the machine hooks up to a tanker. This item shows precisely that open state, in the version for later aircraft. On its own it is not a model of the aircraft but a refinement for one.
The name states that this is the late version; a variant for early machines is made as well. When choosing, therefore, go by the configuration of the particular aircraft you are building, as the area around the receptacle changed over the long service of the type.
The Thunderbolt II was built around a seven-barrel thirty millimeter cannon, and the whole airframe is subordinated to survival over the battlefield: the pilot is protected by a titanium bathtub, the pair of turbofan engines sits high above the rear fuselage and the controls are duplicated. It has served since the end of the 1970s and, despite repeated attempts to retire it, has kept a role that nobody else has filled.
An open receptacle is a rewarding little thing, because it draws attention to the nose; it pays to bring it out with a fine wash and to let the crisp edges show with a dry brush. The item comes without any finish and without a base kit. Do not look for paints and glues in it, unless stated otherwise.
