A liquid filter from the Metal Filters line. A filter works differently from a wash: it does not run into the recesses and does not bring out engraved lines, but is applied in a thin coat over a whole surface and shifts its tone. The Interference qualifier in the name describes an optical effect: the resulting shade changes with the angle of view and with how the light falls on the surface, so the gold cast will stand out markedly at one moment and recede at another angle. It comes out best over a smooth and rather darker base, typically over metallic shades.

Where it suits

A gold interference cast is used where metal is meant to read warm and alive: exhaust systems, heat-discolored surfaces, edges exposed by wear, old brass and bronze, and also fantasy figures and armor where you want the transition of shades to depend on the light.

Use

• Stir the contents thoroughly before use; the pigment settles at the bottom and without stirring the effect will be weak.
• Apply it to a perfectly dry and smooth painted surface, ideally over a gloss intermediate coat.
• Work in thin coats and let each one dry; the strength of the effect can be built up by repeating.
• Try the strength first on a spare piece of plastic with the same base as on the model.
• Clean the brush immediately after work and close the container carefully, so that the contents do not thicken.

Who it is for

For modelers who are finishing a surface and are after a gentle cast that changes with the light rather than a fully opaque color. It finds a use on military vehicles, aircraft and figures and equally well on fantasy and science fiction subjects. Anyone who wants the whole range of shades together can reach for the complete set of the same line.
