This item is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory set for a model of the F-35B Lightning II in 1:48. It deals with the underwing pylons and the adapters for carrying missiles, that is with parts that are very visible on a finished model and on which crisper shapes and a finer surface than is usual with injection-molded plastic pay off. Behind the Quickboost brand stands the Czech manufacturer Aires, whose accessories have long been established among aircraft modelers.
The F-35B is the variant of the Lightning II with short takeoff and vertical landing capability. It differs from the other versions in the lift fan placed behind the cockpit and in the swiveling nozzle of the powerplant, thanks to which it can operate from short decks and from surfaces that a conventional supersonic fighter cannot use. It is operated by the US Marine Corps and by European users. On a low-observable flight profile the aircraft carries its armament in internal bays and flies with no external stores; once superiority in the air is no longer in doubt, however, external carriage under the wing is used as well, and it is exactly that which this set belongs to.
The pylons are painted away from the airframe, because their shade usually differs from the camouflage of the aircraft and masking them again on a finished model is needless work. It works well to glue them to a stick or a piece of wire, spray them, let them cure fully and fit them at the end of the build. Use cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) for gluing and level the contact surfaces in advance.
