A set of acrylic inks from The Inks range of the Spanish brand AK interactive, pitched toward dark tones. It holds three inks meant for deepening shadows and for darkening a shade where mixing black paint in would dirty the tone and strip it of its color. The inks are not a covering paint for an area but a strongly pigmented medium with which a shade is shifted.
Darkening with pure black is the quickest but also the least true: the color loses its saturation and the result looks gray. A dark ink, by contrast, keeps the color character of the tone and the shadow stays colored. Because the pigment is finely ground and the consistency thin, the ink runs into recesses and brings out engraved detail without leaving a hard edge behind it.
For figure painters and modelers who build volume with light and shadow and want to have their dark tones ready instead of mixing them again every time. It will also serve well on fantasy and science fiction subjects, where a dark atmosphere is the intention.
