The Latvian brand Copper State Models builds its range on the subject of the First World War and alongside its models of equipment it releases an extensive figure line. This set in 1:35 scale presents an officer at a German armored car. A commander figure is always the focus of attention in a scene, because it determines where the other figures are looking and how the viewer reads the whole composition.
An officer with a unit of armored cars differed from the rank-and-file members of a crew in his dress and in his equipment. Among the typical signs were better cuts of uniform, officer's caps and accessories such as a field bag, binoculars or a map case. The army committed the German armored cars in smaller numbers than the Entente powers, predominantly on the Eastern Front and to security and reconnaissance duties, where a commander often worked outside the vehicle and led the unit from the ground.
It is good to place a commander figure so that it creates a relation to the equipment and to the other figures, typically at the side of the vehicle, on a step or in an open hatch. The gaze and the gesture determine the line of action of the scene. For matching the colors of the composition it pays off to keep to period photographs, because the shade of German field gray shifted during the war and officers' uniforms differed from those of the men in the cloth as well.
