This is not a kit nor a set of parts, but a sheet of waterslide decals in 1:32 scale. It is used to carry the four-color diamond fuselage covering onto a Fokker D.VII biplane model in the version for machines from the OAW production. In addition it contains the so-called rib tapes, that is, the narrow strips used on the real aircraft to cover the sewn seams of the covering over the ribs.
The Fokker D.VII was a German fighter biplane deployed in the last year of the First World War. It was built by the parent company and alongside it by the Albatros works, among them the Ostdeutsche Albatros Werke branch, marked OAW. The covering differed between the individual plants, which is why decal sets are prepared separately for each production line. On the wings as well as on the fuselage the printed diamond fabric was supplemented with narrow strips of the same fabric sewn over the ribs; on a model these tapes are exactly the detail that can bring the surface to life and break up the impression of one continuous film.
Work in this order: the large areas of the covering first, and only once they have dried the tapes over the ribs. Trim the surplus carrier film around the decals closely with a fresh blade so that neighboring parts do not overlap more than necessary, otherwise a visible edge appears. Settle the tapes onto a wet surface and align them to the engraved rib, not by eye; once the film grabs, there is no straightening it. It helps to leave a little water under the tape and to move it with a damp brush. Use decal softener on shaped transitions and let the film set without touching it. Finally go over it with gloss clear and even the surface out to match the overall look of the model.
This is an accessory for a model. The model itself, paints, clear coats and decal softener are not included in the package.
