The photo-etched set 1:32 A6M5 Zero landing flaps replaces the plastic landing flaps with thin metal parts which can be shown in the lowered position.
Responsibility details are not available.
A molded flap in 1:32 scale has a thickness several times greater than reality would call for, and at a glance it gives away that it is plastic. This set replaces it with a part in metal sheet which comes close to the real thickness of the profile and carries the inner ribbing exposed once it is lowered. The trailing edge stays sharp, which is visible at first glance on a model with the flaps down.
The Zero had slotted flaps across a considerable part of the span and when landing on a deck the pilot lowered them into the full position. That is precisely why the machine appears with the flaps down in period photographs from a deck, and a model built with the flaps retracted looks stiff next to such a photograph. The exposed inner side at the same time offers a color contrast against the exterior finish. In the lowered position the difference between thin metal and the several times thicker material of the adjoining surfaces moreover stands out.
The metal part calls for careful pre-bending into the profile, ideally over a cylindrical rod, so that the bend does not break. The attachment to the molded wing has to be strengthened with wire or a strip of plastic, because the mating surface is small. Once it is glued, degrease the assembly, so that the primer holds.
The goods contain the metal parts; the aircraft itself has to be obtained separately.
