Masks for the twin-engine North American B-25J Mitchell bomber in 1:32 scale. The package covers the cockpit glazing from both sides, holds four sets of national insignia and decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
The B-25J was the most numerous form of the Mitchell and at the same time a machine that served on every front of the Second World War. The medium bomber with twin fins appeared over the Mediterranean, over Burma and in the hands of Soviet crews, and in the Pacific version with the solid nose it flew at low level against ships. In whichever form, it is studded with clear areas more than any single-seat machine.
The modeler has to cope with the glazed nose, the cockpit of both pilots, the dorsal turret, the side windows of the gunners and the rear position. That is ten separate parts on which the frame is masked one edge at a time. Cut film turns this work from guesswork into assembly: every piece has its shape ready, it fits the frame and the whole cockpit is sprayed in one go.
On a large bomber in 1:32 scale the quality of the frames makes up most of the final impression. An unsteady line on one of the ten parts spoils an otherwise clean build. Stick the film on, press it down and apply the paint in several weak coats so that it does not bleed along a long straight edge. It also pays to start with the smallest windows and leave the large areas for last, because by then the hand is warmed up and the edges come out more accurately.
