A photo-etched set for a model of the Bf 109F-2 fighter in 1:32 scale. Metal parts replace detail that plastic cannot make thin enough.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109F, established among modelers as the Friedrich, was a reworked version of the German single-seat fighter. It received rounded wing tips, a smoother cowling and tail surfaces without external struts, so it looks cleaner than the older Emil. It was powered by an inverted liquid-cooled Daimler-Benz V12 and the main weapon fired through the hollow propeller shaft. The F-2 version was among the first production Friedrichs and flew in the west as well as in the east.
Photo-etched parts are made from thin metal sheet, so they have the true thickness of the real subject, which injection-molded plastic cannot imitate. They are used above all to replace thin sheet, grilles, loops and small controls. The set is made for a model in 1:32 scale, where every such detail is clearly visible. Which particular parts the package contains and which kit they are cut for are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The parts are held on the fret only by thin tabs. Separate them with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not by twisting, or they will bend. Make the bends along the scored line, best in a bender or between two razor blades. They are glued with cyanoacrylate applied in a vanishing amount, and on larger parts a slower epoxy suits, which lets a part be fine-tuned. Before painting, degrease the metal and apply a primer, or the paint will not stay on the smooth surface.
For modelers who build a large Friedrich and want to take the detail above the level of the box contents. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
