The letter F marks a rebuild the designers devoted to aerodynamics. The tailplane struts disappeared, the wing tips received a rounded plan, the engine cowling was lengthened and the tail wheel retracted. The weapons vanished from the wings altogether and the armament was concentrated in the fuselage and the propeller axis. Pilots who flew both rated Friedrich as the best balanced machine of the whole family, even though they objected to its weaker firepower. It was committed from the spring of 1941 over the Channel, in North Africa and on the Eastern Front. The rounded wing tips became a recognition feature by which the type can be told from its angular predecessor at first glance.
Before the backing paper is peeled off, it pays to lay every shape on the part just so and see whether it lines up with the grooves of the frame. The vinyl is translucent, so the outline beneath it shows through. That reveals which piece belongs on which window and whether it needs turning slightly. A shape once lifted and stuck down again loses part of its adhesion, so the rule is to try it dry and stick it once. Rinse your finger before this work, as grease under the film is the most common cause of a lifted corner.
This is an accessory to a kit, which the package does not include.
