About product

Dust filter for the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6, early version 1:32 (Quickboost)

A resin tropical dust filter for the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 fighter in 1:32 scale from the maker Quickboost, in the early version. It is a precisely cast replacement for the intake filter, not a stand-alone aircraft model. The detail part replaces the simplified or missing filter from a base kit.

What the part is for

Bf 109G-6s deployed on dusty battlefields, for example in the Mediterranean and in North Africa, received a tropical dust filter on the supercharger intake, which kept sand and dust out of the engine. The filter had a characteristic shape fitted over the air intake at the side of the engine cowling. This early version corresponds to the earlier form of that cover; the exact shape of the filter helps to tell tropically equipped machines from standard ones.

Usage and painting tips

Resin parts call for more careful work: wash them to remove mold release residue, separate them from the casting block carefully and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate); protect your airways while sanding. Blend the filter into the surrounding cowling with primer, paint it in the camouflage scheme of the aircraft and bring out the intake grille with a dark wash and a fine dust pigment.

Who the part is for

  • Modelers building a tropically equipped Bf 109G-6 in 1:32 scale
  • Anyone interested in the faithful shape of the early version of the dust filter
  • Collectors of German aviation subjects from the Mediterranean and North Africa
  • Builders who want to tell a tropical machine from a standard one

The part is supplied as a resin accessory, unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

On dusty battlefields it protected the supercharger intake of the engine from sand and dust. It was fitted to tropically equipped machines.

No. It is a resin intake filter, that is, a detail accessory for a Bf 109G-6 kit. The base model has to be bought separately.

The filter appeared in several forms during the war. This set matches the earlier shape of the cover, so it is worth checking which form your aircraft carried.
