Quickboost is a range of quick resin replacements that improve one particular assembly of a model without touching the rest of the build. Here it is a complete propeller for models of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 G series in the large 1:32 scale. It is not an aircraft kit but a replacement part that you fit in place of the plastic original.
The propeller is a visually dominant part of every model with a piston engine and at the same time one of the parts where injection-molded plastic reaches the limit of what it can do. A propeller blade has to carry a thin leading edge, a smooth transition to the blade and a clean pitch angle; a mold with a parting line manages that only with compromises. A resin casting is poured differently, so it tends to be thinner and cleaner in shape, and filling the parting line along the whole length of the blade falls away as well.
Wash the casting in lukewarm water with detergent, so that the mold release agent residue disappears. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw and level the surface with abrasive paper wet; never break it, as a thin blade cracks easily. Before gluing, test dry whether the shaft or the spigot fits the engine cowling, and if need be open the hole out gently. It is bonded with cyanoacrylate glue. When painting it helps to spray the blades separately from the spinner and join them only once dry; the edge of the blade is worth picking out with a fine darker line, which emphasizes the thickness. In a large scale, slight wear on the leading edges also pays off, because they are clearly visible from close up.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
