Belts for the seats of the Blackburn Buccaneer in 1:32 complete the cockpit of the British carrier-based strike aircraft with the safety harness of both crew members.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory for the large kit of the British carrier-based strike aircraft. The set brings the harness for the seats and is fitted into the cockpit of a model under construction; the machine itself and the seats are not part of the delivery.
The Buccaneer came about in the 1950s as a low-flying strike machine for carrier service with the Royal Navy and it was designed for its role down to the detail: it had a blown wing and flaps for a low landing speed, a rotary bomb bay door instead of conventional doors, a hinged nose and folding wingtips for the sake of the hangar, and a sturdy airframe that took turbulent flight close to the ground better than most contemporary aircraft. From 1969 it also served with the Royal Air Force, for the last time in combat in 1991 over Iraq, where it guided bombs onto the target. The crew consisted of two men seated one behind the other, the pilot and the navigator.
A tandem cockpit means two stations under one long canopy, so it pays to fit the harness to both seats with the same care, as the rear station is in fact better seen from above than the front one. Fit the straps only onto a seat that is finished and weathered, and let them fall visibly over the edges: in 1:32 scale a strap stretched out straight looks unnaturally stiff. The metal buckles stand out when you carefully polish them after painting.
