The F-16I is the two-seat version of the F-16 fighter built for the Israeli Air Force, where it carries the name Sufa, meaning storm. It is told apart from ordinary two-seat machines by the prominent dorsal spine behind the cockpit and by the conformal tanks hugging the fuselage, which extend the range without taking up racks. The crew consists of a pilot and a systems operator, so the interior has two fully equipped cockpits.
These are color sheets with a molded relief that replace painting the small details of a cockpit by hand. Instrument panels, side consoles, control panels and seat belts get legible labels and a raised surface that can hardly be achieved with a brush. The QD series elements from Quinta Studio are printed on a backing decal paper, so they are dipped briefly in lukewarm water, but a decal softener is not used with them.
It is best to paint the cockpit surfaces in the base interior shade first, let them dry completely and go over them with a gloss coat such as Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22, because the elements have no adhesive layer of their own. The cut-out part is dipped in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds, slid off the paper into place and pressed down with a soft tool so that it settles into the corners as well; on broken-up areas a drop of cyanoacrylate glue helps. It is better to apply the details before the cockpit is closed into the fuselage, because tweezers no longer reach into a finished model. On larger panels it helps to work from one edge so that no air is trapped under the element. It is practical to fit the seat and the instrument panel separately, before the fuselage halves are joined.
Paints, glue and the kit itself are not in the package, unless stated otherwise.
