A resin add-on set in 1:32 scale for models of the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II in the E, J, F, G and S versions. It is not a model of the aircraft, but a replacement for the exhaust ends of both powerplants. The set deals with a place that on the Phantom is exceptionally striking thanks to its pair of closely spaced nozzles and that tends to be simplified in plastic: thin petal edges, fine division and a three-dimensional interior practically cannot be worked into an injection mold.
The F-4 Phantom II is a twin-engine multirole aircraft that served with a number of air arms in many development versions. The powerplant consisted of J79 jet engines with afterburners. It is precisely by the form of the exhaust nozzles that the individual groups of versions differ, and that is why makers of detail sets divide Phantoms into two families — this set belongs to the E, J, F, G and S versions, not to the earlier machines. So check which version you are building before ordering.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent, so that the release agent is removed. Separate the casting blocks with a fine saw and true the surfaces on abrasive paper; protect your airways while sanding. They are glued with cyanoacrylate; cement for plastic will not join resin. Phantom nozzles tend to be heavily heat-loaded, so painting rests on a combination of metallic shades, a dark wash into the recesses and graduated burnt tints. Paint the interior before you seat the part. Derive the particular degree of sooting from photographs of the machine you are modeling.
This is an add-on set, not a model of the aircraft. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
