HAD models F-4 Phantom II patches and helmet markings — a decal set of unit patches and helmet motifs for figures of Phantom crews in 1:32 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The decal set from the Hungarian manufacturer HAD models deals with the detail that large figures stand or fall by: the unit patches on flight suits and the varied decoration of flying helmets. The motifs are prepared for the crews of the F-4 Phantom II aircraft in 1:32 scale, where these small items are clearly visible to the naked eye.
The Phantom flew with a two-man crew and distinctive helmets and patches belonged to the identity of every unit. Miniature ornaments like these are very difficult to paint by hand, while a decal gives a figure a clean, sharp result within a few minutes. In a large scale the helmet is the dominant feature of a figure, so the investment in detail pays back at once on the exhibition table.
Apply the base in gloss, dip the decal briefly in lukewarm water and settle it in place with softener, so that it sits down even on the curve of a helmet. Once it has dried, go over it with matte or semi-gloss varnish according to the character of the surface. Tweezers with a fine tip are the best friend in this work.
Deal with the patches on the sleeves and the chest right after the flight suit is painted, and leave the helmet to the very end, so that it does not have to be handled during the rest of the work. Try the finished figure in the cockpit of the Phantom dry.
