Masks for the cockpit glazing of the F-4C and F-4D Phantom II in 1:32 scale, for the outer and the inner side, cut for the Tamiya kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Phantom II was a two-seat fighter that became one of the symbols of the 1960s and 1970s. The F-4C and F-4D versions served with the US Air Force and differed mainly in internal equipment; outwardly the machines are almost identical. The crew sits one behind the other under a pair of separately opening canopies whose framing is heavily subdivided and on a model in a large scale dominates the whole upper part of the fuselage.
Masks cut for the glazing of the Tamiya kit in 1:32 scale, for the outer as well as the inner side of the parts. It is the inner masking that makes a visible difference: the frames can be sprayed in the top color from outside and in the cockpit shade from inside, so that looking through the glazing you do not see the exterior finish where the interior should be. With an open cockpit, which is how the Phantom is most often built, that is obvious at first glance.
The work goes in two rounds. First the inner side is masked, the cockpit shade is sprayed and left to dry. Only then come the outer masking and the top coat. Wash and degrease the clear part before each round, press the mask down all round and lay the paint on in several thin coats, because a heavy coat will creep under the edge. Lift the mask off with tweezers at a sharp angle before the paint has fully cured.
For modelers who build the Phantom in a large scale with the cockpit open and want sharp frames on both sides. The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
