The masking set Eduard 1:32 F4U-1D is an aid for painting a model of the Corsair carrier fighter in the F4U-1D version in 1:32 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, intended for building a model of the Vought F4U-1D Corsair in 1:32 scale. These are not parts of the model but pre-shaped masks that cover the areas meant to stay clean during spraying. The set is tied to the particular F4U-1D version, because the shape of the glazing differs between the individual Corsair variants.
The framed canopy is a classic trap. Cutting tape by hand for so many straight and curved panes takes hours, and one pane not cut squarely is enough for it to show on the finished model. A shaped mask fits a given pane first time and the spacing of the frames stays even along the whole length of the canopy.
Wash and degrease the part before masking; a mask will not hold on a greasy surface. Besides the canopy the Corsair has other small clear parts, and the procedure on them is the same. Once the mask is on, press the edges down and first spray the edge with the color of the underlying coat; that runs under any gap and seals it. Only then spray the target shade. Once the paint has flashed off, remove the mask with tweezers, pulling at an angle along the edge. Any glue residue on a clear part comes off with a soft cloth, not with solvent, which would fog the plastic.
The set is an aid for painting. The model, paints and glue are not supplied with it.
