A large injection-molded plastic kit of the carrier fighter and strike aircraft of the US Navy in the attractive 1:32 scale. The model from Trumpeter offers richly broken-up surfaces, a well worked out cockpit and landing gear, and in the box the plastic is supplemented by a photo-etched part and waterslide decals. The main landing gear legs are reinforced with metal so that they carry the weight of the finished model.
The Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet is the single-seat version of the modernized Super Hornet line, which the US Navy introduced at the end of the 1990s as the successor to the original Hornets and to the F-14 Tomcat. Compared with its predecessor it has a larger airframe, more powerful engines, more pylons and a longer range. It serves as a fighter and for strikes against ground targets from the decks of aircraft carriers.
An extensive model calls for work space and for patience when fitting the large fuselage and wing parts. Glue the joints with liquid modeling cement for plastic and use a primer before painting. The typical low-visibility gray schemes of the US Navy stand out best with an airbrush and gentle accentuation of the panel lines with a dark wash. Because of the size, consider supporting the landing gear.
