The Special Hobby 1:32 Fieseler Fi 103 / V-1 Hi-Tech is a kit of the German unmanned flying bomb of the end of the Second World War in a large scale. The Hi-Tech edition means plastic complemented by parts in other materials.
Responsibility details are not available.
This kit from the Czech manufacturer Special Hobby in 1:32 scale captures the German unmanned weapon Fieseler Fi 103, known under the designation V-1. With this manufacturer the Hi-Tech designation means that the injection-molded plastic is complemented by parts in further materials, typically resin castings and photo-etched sheets, which handle fine details unattainable with an ordinary mold. Thanks to the large scale and the simple shape of the subject, the model is fairly accessible even for builders who do not yet have much practice with supplementary materials, yet it will call for careful work when cleaning the parts up.
The Fieseler Fi 103 was a single-use unmanned aircraft with a pulsejet engine mounted above the rear of the fuselage. It was a technically very simple design with a short straight wing, simple gyroscopic and barometric control and a cylindrical fuselage that carried the fuel and the warhead. It was launched from a ground catapult ramp, or else released from a carrier aircraft. From the engineering point of view it is interesting above all for its propulsion: the pulsejet worked in cycles with a shutter grid in the intake and was undemanding to build, but noisy and short-lived. It is precisely that propulsion that makes the Fi 103 one of the technically most distinctive weapons of its day.
Glue the injection-molded plastic with thin cement for polystyrene, which is drawn into the seam by capillary action; the resin and photo-etched parts, by contrast, with super glue. Wash the resin before gluing because of the mold release agent, and bend the photo-etched parts in a bending tool or between two blades, not with your fingers. The fuselage has long longitudinal seams, which have to be carefully puttied and sanded, so that they do not disturb the smooth cylindrical shape. First spray the whole model with primer, which reveals any remaining unevenness. The finish of the real weapon was simple and utilitarian, so sparing weathering, mild shades and discreet accentuation of the panel lines pay off. The model stands out best on a simple base or on a stand.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
