A metal detail accessory, not a kit. The package contains two turned barrels for the German aircraft cannon of 3.7 cm caliber, derived from the ground Flak 18 anti-aircraft gun. The barrels were used in underwing gun pods on the anti-armor versions of German aircraft; the set replaces the plastic parts from a kit.
A cannon of 3.7 cm caliber has a fairly long and slender barrel with a prominent muzzle, and in 1:32 scale it is seen really close up. The plastic part is split, so after gluing it carries a lengthwise groove and once that is sanded away it is no longer exactly circular. It also has a blind muzzle, and a bore over a millimeter across is hard to drill into plastic, as the bit bites in and the muzzle widens into a funnel. Turned metal arrives straight, cylindrical and with a cleanly machined bore. Because the barrels sit loose in the underwing gun pod and project forward, you will also appreciate that a metal part takes handling and does not snap.
Cut the plastic barrel off at the mouth of the gun pod and open out the hole to the diameter of the shank. The metal part has to slip in without pressure, otherwise it will split the plastic gun pod. Glue with gel grade cyanoacrylate or epoxy, which gives time to line both barrels up at the same angle; asymmetry is the most conspicuous fault on a pair of barrels. Degrease the metal with alcohol, apply a primer for metal and paint thinly. The metallic sheen of a barrel is best imitated by a graphite pencil or an oxidizing solution, or by a metallic paint applied only after the base color of the aircraft. Fit the barrels at the end of the build, so that they are not in the way during masking.
The set is an accessory to a model, not a standalone kit. The aircraft model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
