A self-adhesive masking set in 1:32 scale for the plastic model of the Gloster Meteor F.4 jet fighter. It is not a kit or a set of decals but an aid for painting: the masks are shaped like the framing of the glazing, are stuck onto the clear part, sprayed over together with the surrounding area and lifted off once dry. The single-sided version covers the outer side of the clear parts, which is the usual choice for a standard paint job on the cockpit. The cut is figured for the HK Models kit.
The Meteor was a British twin-engine jet fighter and the only Allied jet type committed to combat in the Second World War. The postwar F.4 version had more powerful engines and some batches had shortened wings; speed records were flown with the type at this time. The glazing consists of a framed canopy and a windscreen, areas where hand masking takes the most time and where an imprecise edge shows at once in a large scale.
Wash the clear part in lukewarm water with detergent and let it dry; a degreased surface is the basis of good adhesion. Lift the masks out with the tip of a scalpel or with sharp tweezers, lay them exactly on the frame and press them down with a wooden stick, above all around the perimeter. Where the outline needs finishing, run a fresh blade lightly so that no groove is left in the clear plastic. Spray the paint in thin coats with a delay; a heavy coat flows under the edge of the mask and the line bleeds. The usual order is the interior shade and, once dry, the exterior covering color. Lift the masks shortly after drying, pulling at an angle along the surface.
The box holds the masking set only. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
