A package from the LööKplus series by the Czech manufacturer Eduard for a model of the Curtiss Hawk 81-A2 in 1:32 scale. The LööKplus series brings together in one package several accessories that are usually dealt with separately on a model, and its core is the pre-painted equipment of the cockpit. The Hawk 81-A2 is the export form of a single-engine fighter with a V12 engine and the characteristic radiator under the forward fuselage. It is not a kit: the base kit is bought separately. Eduard carries further accessories with similar names for the same machine, and the individual sets are told apart by the exact designation of the series.
In 1:32 scale the cockpit is open to view and a plastic molding usually does not do it justice. The LööK series is built for exactly that problem: it replaces the key parts of the pilot's compartment with a part whose shape and colors are already finished, and the suffix plus means that you will find further accessories for the same model in the package as well. The exact list of contents is given on the packaging of the set. Lay the parts out before building and work out what has to be in the model before the fuselage is closed.
The pre-painted part is neither painted over nor primed. The work with paint thus shifts to the surroundings: the interior of the cockpit has to be mixed so that it suits the tone of the finished part. The surest procedure is to spray a test piece of plastic, lay it beside the pre-painted part and compare them in daylight; under a bulb the shades shift. When the surroundings drift to a different tone, the eye registers it at once, even if the detail itself is perfect. The rest comes down to sheen: finished parts tend to be semi-matte to glossy, whereas a sprayed interior comes out matte, so at the end the whole compartment is gone over with one coat of matte varnish. The pre-painted parts are fitted into the model only after the surroundings have been sprayed and weathered, so that they do not have to be masked.
These are accessories, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
