Photo-etched seatbelts for the pilot's seat of a Lockheed Martin F-35B model in 1:32 scale, in the form the manufacturer designates STEEL.
Responsibility details are not available.
Seatbelts are among the elements that turn an empty cockpit shell into a pilot's workplace. On a modern combat aircraft the seat is the most prominent thing visible under an open canopy, and the harness on it takes up a large area. The set is meant for an F-35B model in 1:32 scale, where the seat is examined close up and missing belts show at first glance.
The STEEL designation sets this variant apart within the range of belts in the same scale. The parts are metal and are supplied on a fret from which the individual straps, buckles and loops are separated. Against a belt molded in one piece, metal has the advantage that it can be bent and left to fall freely over the edge of the seat, so that the belt does not read as a flat sticker.
Separate the belts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and refine the shape with tweezers before the glue comes into play. Make the folds smoothly, as a sharp crease looks unnatural on a strap. They are bonded with cyanoacrylate glue in a minute amount. The work is easier if you seat the longer end of the belt first and only then the loops and buckles. Fine-pointed tweezers are invaluable here; coarse ones will crumple a strap. Do any touching-up in thin coats, as thick paint floods the fine relief. It pays to seat the belts before the canopy is fitted to the cockpit, as afterward the seat is hard to reach.
The package holds a photo-etched fret with the belts. The seat, the aircraft kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
