An injection-molded plastic kit of the naval Phantom in 1:32 scale from Tamiya. The mold has long been among the best that exists of the Phantom in plastic: the fuselage is designed as a single part (there is no seam along the spine), the assembly is additionally secured with screws, the main landing gear legs are metal and the tires are rubber. The canopy, the airbrakes and the refueling probe can be opened or closed. The package holds two crew figures, clear parts, armament (guided missiles, drop tanks and bombs) and three marking options for US Navy and US Marines aircraft. The outer wing sections are separate and have the hinges for folding indicated. Count on the fact that 1:32 means a really large model - it takes up a lot of room in a display case and every imperfection in the surface shows.
The F-4J was the fighter version of the Phantom for the US Navy and US Marines - with more powerful engines, a new radar and improved fire control. The Phantom became one of the most widespread combat aircraft of the Cold War and is unmistakable at first glance: upswept wingtips and downward-angled horizontal tail surfaces. It served as a fighter and as a strike aircraft, from the decks of aircraft carriers and from shore.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic, which runs into the joint by capillary action. Finish and paint the cockpit and the landing gear bays before you close the fuselage. A primer coat is a must on a model of this size - the surface is enormous and sanding marks show mercilessly in 1:32. Apply the paint with an airbrush in thin coats, overcoat with gloss varnish before the decals and finally unify the surface with a matte one. Degrease the metal landing gear legs before bonding, because cement for plastic does not hold on them.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
