A set item of the circle of ground technical personnel of the US Army Air Forces of 1940 to 1945, made in 1:32 scale. The word set in the name separates it from the individually numbered items of the same circle and places it among the group items of the manufacturer Black Dog.
A group of technicians needs one thing more in a display than an individual does: a shared object of interest. Without it the scene falls apart into several people standing randomly side by side. That object tends to be an uncovered powerplant, a part laid out on a tarpaulin, a drum or a cart brought up. Once the scene has one, the figures start coming across as a single working team.
Divide the group into two levels of height. One figure higher up on a platform or on a wing and another down by a wheel will give the scene a depth that a flat surface on its own never creates. Leave an empty place between the levels, so that the eye has somewhere to rest. When painting the set it pays to finish one piece entirely as a reference and then to harmonize the rest with it. That saves time with the mixing and thanks to it the group holds together even when viewed from a distance through the glass of a display case.
