Why change the exhausts
The exhausts of the V-type engine stand out from the sides of the cowling and are clearly visible in 1:32 scale. The plastic part usually has a solid opening and a parting line along its whole length, so it looks unconvincing. The resin replacement has thinner walls and a cleaner shape, which shows up strongly once it is painted and lightly weathered. Fitting is quick: it is the swap of a single assembly, not an intervention in the structure of the model.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 F version was a single-engined fighter with a liquid-cooled inverted V12 engine. Compared with the earlier marks it had an aerodynamically cleaner nose, a revised wing with rounded tips and reworked radiators. The individual F-2, F-4 and F-6 subvariants differed in armament and equipment, but the shape of the exhaust stacks is common to this group.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent to remove the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc; the thin stacks are brittle and nippers can break them. Level the surfaces with a file and wet sandpaper, with respiratory protection. They are glued with super glue, that is, cyanoacrylate. Apply a primer before painting. Paint the exhausts separately off the model in a dark rusty shade, add pigments or dry brushing, and fit them last, after the camouflage has been sprayed and the decals applied. Darker smoke streaks can be suggested around the openings, but sparingly.
