A kit of a compact tracked mini excavator in 1:32 scale from the Japanese company Fujimi. It is a classic injection-molded plastic model that is glued and painted. Besides the machine itself, the package also holds accessories for a simple construction scene: warning cones, a wheelbarrow, a helmet and signage. The arm of the machine is arranged so that it can be turned into a chosen position once assembled, and the seat in the cab can be rotated. The model therefore does not have to stand only as a static display item; it also works well as part of a diorama or as an accessory to models of trucks and lowboy semi-trailers.
The subject is a compact Kubota mini excavator of the class up to one ton. Machines in this category are used for small excavations in built-up areas, for landscaping, for utility connections and for garden work, everywhere a full-size excavator will not fit. Rubber tracks, a slewing superstructure with an arm and an open or only lightly covered operator's cab are characteristic of them. Apply a primer before painting, otherwise the paint holds worse on smooth plastic. Finish the cab and the interior before you close it up. Weathering lifts the final impression a great deal: a machine of this type is dusty and muddy in service, so a dark wash into the recesses, a dry brush on the edges and pigments on the tracks and the underside of the superstructure all pay off. Paint the cones and the helmet in contrasting colors, so that the scene comes alive.
