Decals in 1:32 for two P-47D fighters with the older form of the fuselage spine. One served in Europe, the other in the Pacific, both with a nickname of their own on the fuselage.
Responsibility details are not available.
Early Thunderbolts had a continuous spine behind the cockpit which did not let a fighter pilot see behind him. The designers later solved that by cutting the spine away and fitting a bubble canopy, but machines of the older form went on flying and many a pilot preferred them for their stability. The sheet brings two such aircraft. The first fought over western Europe with a fighter group supporting the ground units, the second belonged to a unit operating over New Guinea and carried a name its commander had written on the fuselage. The combination of both finishes on one sheet gives a modeler two quite different forms of the same machine.
Check that you have a kit of the older variant. Models with a bubble canopy have a different line behind the cockpit and markings placed on the spine would not match on them. The white identification bands on the tail and the wing that machines in the Pacific as well as in Europe carried can be sprayed or applied as decals; if you reach for a decal, lay it on a perfectly smooth area and press the edge down with a cotton swab so that it does not lift anywhere. A radial engine also throws a lot of dirt around the cowling, so small lettering in this area only makes sense where operational grime would not have covered it yet.
