This set from the Czech maker Eduard is intended for working out the exterior of the Panavia Tornado IDS kit in 1:32 scale. It is a full photo-etched set, that is a more extensive set of thin metal sheet that replaces or completes the plastic parts in the places where the material should be thin and sharply stepped. The set is not a kit in itself and cannot be used without the base plastic model.
The Panavia Tornado IDS is a two-seat combat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing, developed by the international Panavia consortium. The IDS version is designed for penetration to ground targets at low level and in poor visibility; power is provided by a pair of turbofan engines with afterburners. Extensive high-lift devices, braking surfaces and richly fitted external pylons are typical of it, so the surface and the external detail are clearly visible on a model.
Cut the parts out of the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and level the remains of the tabs with a fine file. Make the bends along the scored grooves, best of all in a photo-etch bending tool, or else between two steel blades or against a ruler. Degrease the metal before gluing; make the joints with cyanoacrylate glue in a minimal amount, and on larger areas a slow-setting epoxy works well. Use an adhesion primer before painting, otherwise the paint holds poorly on smooth metal. Any pre-painted parts are not sanded down.
The set is an accessory to a kit. The kit itself, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
