The figure captures a ground crew technician of the contemporary Russian Air Force. It is released by Aerobonus, the figure branch of the maker Aires. It is an accessory to a finished model of an aircraft in a large scale – the machine itself is not in the package and the figure is no substitute for it.
Ground crew turn a lone model on a base into a whole scene. A figure by the nose gear leg or by an opened cover shows at once how big the machine really is, and offers the viewer a place to look first. A large scale is rewarding for this purpose: the face, the hands and the folds of the working clothes are big enough to take painting up in detail.
Before painting, wash the parts in warm soapy water, let them dry thoroughly and carefully sand off the remains left by production. Lay down the primer in a thin coat, so that the engraving of the surface is not lost. Working clothes read convincingly when three tones are set apart – the base, a lightening on the raised parts and a darker wash into the folds. The face benefits from several glazes rather than one dense coat; suggest the eye slit rather than drawing it hard.
