Resin smoke generators for the wingtip rails for a model of the Rafale aircraft in 1:32 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
When a fighter aircraft performs before spectators, it draws a trail behind it that shows the viewer the path of a maneuver. The smoke is produced by a cylindrical housing hung in the place where a close-combat missile is otherwise mounted. The shape of the housing imitates that round, hence the playful name, which came about by joining the word for smoke and the name of a well-known missile.
The set brings castings for the largest of the common modeling reductions. At the size of 1:32 every change of diameter and the small nozzle at the end can already be made out on the part, so the casting carries detail that would be lost at a smaller reduction. That is at the same time the reason why careful cleaning up pays off here: what is bigger is visible.
The housings tend to be in a conspicuous shade that goes with the color scheme of the display machine, and they often carry colored stripes following the national colors. Anyone building an aircraft in the ordinary gray form can use them as well, because they are flown outside public performances too.
The casting is washed and degreased before spraying. On smooth resin the paint holds only on a well-prepared base; otherwise it rubs off while the finished part is handled.
The housing is attached to the wingtip rail by a short adapter. Before gluing it is good to check whether the kit has the rail at all, because some sets replace it with a missile cast in one piece with the wing.
