About product

Soviet Air Force seat belts, 3D decals 1:32

A sheet of color decals with a relief layer, intended to fit out the cabins of models of Soviet aircraft of the Second World War in 1:32 scale, specifically the machines of the Yakovlev, Lavochkin and Ilyushin design bureaus. It is neither a model nor a photo-etched set. The decal carries full color printing as well as a raised layer, so the strap has thickness and the buckle a different shade, without your having to bend or solder anything.

Background

The single-seat fighters of the Yak and La series and the Ilyushin Il-2 attack aircraft had fairly plain cabins, where the seat with its belts is one of the few prominent elements. That is exactly why it shows on a finished model whether the belts are there or not, particularly in the large 1:32 scale, where the cabin is easy to look into once the canopy is opened. The straps of Soviet types also differ in color from western ones, so a set cut directly for this group of machines gives a better result than a universal sheet.

Application tips and the order of work

Finish the seat and the structure completely first, that is paint them and apply a gloss clear coat. On a glossy surface the decal adheres without matte edges. Soak it briefly, only until the film releases, and settle it with a soft brush, never with metal tweezers. The manufacturer does not recommend decal softeners; the raised layer does not need them. Where a belt is to hang loose or break over the edge of a seat, a drop of thinned PVA glue applied in advance helps. Let the decal dry undisturbed, and only then matte it down and weather it if you wish.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of Soviet fighters and attack aircraft in 1:32 scale.
  • Modelers who do not want to work with photo-etched belts.
  • Those building a model with the cabin canopy open.
  • Anyone interested in a quick way to bring an interior to life without cutting into the plastic.

The set contains decals only. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

For Soviet aircraft of the Second World War from the Yakovlev, Lavochkin and Ilyushin design bureaus in 1:32 scale. The particular list of subtypes is given in the instructions with the sheet.

No, the manufacturer does not recommend using one. What matters is a smooth, glossy surface on which the decal film does not wrinkle and leaves no matte edges.

Only after the seat has been finished and clear-coated. The decal sits best on a finished glossy surface. Leave the matting and the weathering for the end.

Yes, if you coat the spot in advance with thinned PVA glue and settle the decal into it with a soft brush. Do not use metal tweezers, as they dent the relief.
