Dead Design 1:32 Spitfire Mk.V Nat. Insignias is a set of masks for the national insignia, thanks to which the British roundels are sprayed in paint instead of being stuck on as decals.

A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.V in 1:32 scale from the manufacturer Dead Design. Unlike masks for the cabin it does not deal with the glazing but with the national insignia: the masks are stuck onto the wings and the fuselage and the individual circles of the insignia are sprayed in paint one after another.
A sprayed national insignia has no carrier film, so no glossy outline or step arises on the surface. The risk of silvering, that is, of tiny air bubbles under a decal, is done away with, and the insignia can be sanded over, weathered or oversprayed with a clear coat of a different sheen afterwards without trouble. It is an advantage especially in the large 1:32 scale, where the edge of a decal would be clearly visible, and on surfaces with raised rivets or panel lines, where a decal often does not seat.
The base has to be smooth and perfectly dry, ideally satin or glossy, so that the mask adheres without paint running under it. Apply the paints in really thin coats and preferably in two goes, because every coat increases the ridge at the edge. Think the order of colors out in advance; with multicolored circular insignia the way is from the lighter shade to the darker one, or from the inner circle outward. Before taking the mask off, check that the paint has dried to the touch, and peel it off slowly and at an angle.
