A double-sided Art Scale masking set for a model of the Grumman TBF-1C torpedo bomber and the license-built TBM-3 in 1:32 scale. The double-sided designation is the key distinguishing detail: against the single-sided version of the same range, the set deals with both sides of the glazing, that is with the view into the cockpit as well.
Canopy frames tend to be in the interior color inside and in the camouflage color outside. A single-sided mask can do only one of those two sides; with a double-sided set you spray both and the transition stays sharp. The procedure is the same as with any shaped mask: degrease the glass, carry the pieces with tweezers, press them down at the edges and spray several thin coats, so that the paint does not run under the edge.
The Grumman Avenger was the standard carrier-borne torpedo bomber of the US Navy in the Second World War. The TBF-1C came straight from Grumman's production, while the TBM designation was carried by machines from license production, which gradually took over the main share of output. A long glazed canopy over the pilot and a dorsal turret mean a large area of frames, so a ready-made mask saves a genuinely noticeable amount of work.
