What the sheet imitates

The sheet is printed with unbleached canvas fabric in the regular form and is intended for the exterior surfaces of a model. On older aircraft a fabric covering is recognizable by the structure of the weave and by the way the framework underneath shows through it; painting that convincingly and evenly with a brush is a job for long hours. The film is semi-transparent, so the color of the surface underneath shows through it and helps determine the final tone. Choose the shade under the decal with an eye to how the finished surface is meant to look, and try it on an offcut.

How to apply the sheet

This is a wet decal. First coat the surface with gloss varnish; on a matte area air will be left under the film and a whitish silvering will appear. Cut the element out with its margin, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it stand until it begins to move on the paper. Then transfer it onto the model, settle it into position and press the water out with a soft cloth from the center toward the edges. On articulated places a softener helps, after which the film draws down into shape; do not touch the decal until it dries. Finally coat the area over, so that the edge of the film disappears.

Work tips

• the decal is very thin; work with it on water and help yourself with a brush, not with tweezers
• 1:32 scale allows the structure of the weave to be seen, so lay the surface down without creases
• on a large area divide the sheet into pieces; the whole thing is hard to lay down
• once it has dried, wipe the adhesive residue off carefully with a damp cotton swab
