Black Dog 1:32 USAAF fighter pilot 1940 to 1945, number 4, is a resin figure for the large scale, the fourth item of the numbered line of pilots of the US Army Air Forces.
Responsibility details are not available.
The fourth figure of the numbered line that Black Dog casts for the large aviation scale of 1:32. The line is built so that the individual numbers can be set up side by side and each figure has a different bearing. The resin casting carries detail that does not arise in injected plastic: the sharp edges of the folds, fully detailed straps and legible features of the face.
A figure beside an aircraft is the simplest way to give a model scale. Without it even a carefully built fighter stays merely an object on the shelf, while with it a scene arises. The equipment of a pilot of the years 1940 to 1945 moreover covers materials that are each painted differently: the leather of the jacket and the helmet, the fabric of the flying suit, rubber hoses and shiny metal buckles. It is precisely in this scale that the differences in sheen and texture really show.
First separate the casting from the casting block with a saw, level the remainder of the block off with a file and sand the area down. Washing in warm water with a detergent follows, because the release agent from the mold otherwise stands in the way of both the paint and the glue. The parts are joined with cyanoacrylate glue, and small gaps will be closed by filler or a drop of glue with sanding dust. Apply the undercoat in a thin coat; it will reveal any scratches. On a figure the procedure from dark to light works well: the base tone, worked-up shadows in the folds and highlights dry along the edges. Leave the face for the end and work with very thinned paints.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the model of the aircraft are not included in the package.
