About product

F4U-1 Corsair 1:32, a color interior on decal paper

An accessory from the manufacturer Red Fox Studio for large models in 1:32 scale. It is neither a resin part nor a kit but details printed three-dimensionally and already colored, carried on decal paper. They are transferred onto the model by the wet method, so gluing, sanding and painting individual faces are all done away with.

The Tamiya kit will serve as the basis; it is bought separately.

The early version and its cockpit

The set is cut for the early production F4U-1 version, which a modeler will recognize from the later machines mainly by the heavily framed glazing of the canopy and the lower seating position of the pilot. The equipment of the pilot's space on this version differs from the later look of the aircraft, and it is precisely that difference which is the reason why the manufacturer offers sets for the individual versions separately. Before buying, therefore, check which version your kit represents, as the designation tends to be on the box.

Working with the decal step by step

Level the area on the part of the kit and paint it a dark shade, which will show through the gaps. Go over it with gloss varnish and let it dry thoroughly. Cut the element out close to the edge, soak it, let it rest and slide it into place. With a softener and a soft brush, press it progressively into the recesses and go over sharp edges several times. Once it has dried, unify the surface with semi-matte varnish and if you like add a drop of clear varnish to the glasses of the instruments. Leave the belts and the small elements until the end, when you no longer have to fear moving the finished panel.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of models of early versions of propeller fighters
  • Modelers who prefer a decal to resin
  • Anyone interested in a detailed interior in a large scale
  • Everyone who builds the F4U-1 version in 1:32 scale

The set is an accessory to a model, not a kit in its own right. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. This set is prepared for the early F4U-1 version, which had the pilot's space solved differently. For the later version the manufacturer offers a separate product.

Yes. The procedure is the same as with an ordinary decal, only more patience is needed when settling it into the recesses. You need neither glue nor sanding.

A dark surface keeps the light color of the plastic from showing through the gaps in the decal. The interior then comes across as deeper and the transitions are not visible.

Moisten it again with softener and press it gently with a brush. In stubborn places a tiny prick with a pin, through which the air escapes, will help.

For the Tamiya kit. That is bought separately.
