Wood-grain decals for Axial propellers in 1:32 scale carry the pattern of laminated wood onto the propeller blades. They are cut for the propellers from Roden kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of thin waterslide decals that imitate the grain of laminated wood on propeller blades. It is neither a kit nor a resin part but a surface finish: the decal is glued onto the finished plastic blade and replaces the laborious hand painting of layered wood. The shape of the decals is prepared for the propellers from Roden kits in 1:32 scale.
Axial was among the German makers of aircraft propellers of the First World War period. The blades were glued up from several layers of hardwood of differing darkness, so that a characteristic striped pattern arose on the sanded surface, bending with the shape of the blade. That is exactly what is hardest to imitate with a brush, and in 1:32 scale it shows on a model straight away.
First clean the mold seam off the plastic blade, spray on a light base and varnish it with gloss, so that no air is held under the decal. Soak the decal briefly, slide it onto the part and spread it out with a damp brush. On a curved surface a decal softener helps, drawing the film down to the surface; let it work and do not touch a decal while it is softening. Blot the excess water away with a paper tissue, let it dry through thoroughly and seal the surface with varnish in the degree of sheen you want. The hub, the fittings and any maker's plates are touched in by hand right at the end.
