About product

The Eduard 1:32 Yak-9K TFace masking set

A sheet of precisely cut self-adhesive masks for the glazing of a model of the Soviet fighter Yakovlev Yak-9K in 1:32 scale. It is not a kit but an accessory that replaces the tedious cutting out of masking tape and gives the cockpit framing a sharp edge. The manufacturer is the Czech company Eduard.

Why TFace

The letters TFace mean masks for both sides of the clear parts. You therefore spray the framing from the outside in the shade of the camouflage and from the inside in the cockpit color, exactly as a real aircraft looks. In the large 1:32 scale the inside of the canopy is visible even with the cockpit closed, and a frame sprayed in a single color is one of the most conspicuous unfinished details. The sister set without the TFace suffix masks only the outer side.

The real subject

The Yakovlev Yak-9 was the most widespread Soviet fighter of the Second World War. The version designated with the letter K carried a large-caliber cannon firing through the hollow propeller shaft and was intended above all against ground and armored targets; only a small number were built. In this family the cockpit has a markedly divided canopy with a fixed rear section, so masking takes needlessly long.

How to use the masks

Degrease the clear parts and handle them only with tweezers. Release the masks from the sheet with the tip of a scalpel, stick them on and press them down with a soft stick so that the edge adheres around the whole perimeter. Fit the inner masks before the glazing is installed, the outer ones only after the canopy has been glued into the fuselage. Spray thin coats, ideally with an airbrush; one heavy coat will seep underneath. Once it is dry to the touch, pull the masks off carefully at an angle, so that the finish does not come away with them.

Who the set is for

  • modelers building the Yak-9K in the large 1:32 scale
  • builders with an open cockpit or with a well worked out interior
  • those who want the framing correctly distinguished in color outside and inside
  • modelers who do not want to spend an evening cutting tape under a magnifier

This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

A second set of masks for the inner side of the glazing. You can therefore spray the framing from the inside in the interior color, which is clearly visible in a large scale.

Before the model is glazed, while the clear parts are still free. The outer masks come later, after they have been glued into the fuselage.

It is not. It is a masking accessory; the kit of the Yak-9K in 1:32 scale has to be bought separately.

No, count on sticking them on once. After removal the adhesive layer loses its grip and the edge would no longer seal.
